1. Fossil Rim Wildlife Center

Just a short drive east of Stephenville near Glen Rose you’ll find Fossil Rim Wildlife Center, a 1,700-acre endangered species conservation and research center. Home to over 1,000 animals spanning more than 50 fifty species, Fossil Rim fosters conservation through public education, training, natural resource management and scientific research. Starting as a private retreat for businessman Tom Mantzel, the Center has evolved into an internationally-accredited attraction.


On guided or self-guided tours throughout the park, visitors can encounter and learn about endangered species such as the red wolf, white and black rhinoceros, African cheetah, Attwater’s prairie chicken, Hartmann’s mountain zebra, sandhill crane, American bison and countless more. Grab a snack from the on-site café or browse the gift shop for a souvenir to commemorate your visit.

2. Dinosaur World Texas

Located east of Stephenville near Glen Rose, Dinosaur World Texas is a unique family-owned & operated attraction featuring over 100 life-sized dinosaur models in natural settings. 3. Tarleton State University Athletics

Fielding teams in fourteen varsity sports competing in the NCAA Division I Western Athletic Conference, the Tarleton State University Texans are one of the hottest tickets in Stephenville! 10,000-seat Memorial Stadium hosts the popular TSU Texans football team and is also home to the Stephenville High Yellow Jackets. Wisdom Gym, with a capacity of 3,000, hosts men’s & women’s basketball, volleyball, as well as concerts, graduation ceremonies and more.


Owing to the school’s agricultural roots, TSU’s teams were originally known as the “Plowboys.” On gamedays throughout the year, you can’t get far in Stephenville without seeing Tarleton’s distinctive purple and white colors. The Texans also compete in baseball, softball, golf, tennis, cross country, and track & field, with competitions held in arenas and venues across the 2,000-acre TSU campus. On Ye Tarleton!

4. Splashville

Adjacent to Stephenville City Park on the southeastern edge of town, Splashville is a popular summer fun destination for the whole family. The water park features a large 4-foot wading pool with two water slides and a lily pad walkway. The splash zone for toddlers includes water cannons, waterfalls, tipping buckets, and a 3-foot water slide. For the energy-challenged, a 275-foot lazy river with floating rafts snakes through the park.


Throughout the season, Splashville also offers water aerobics, fitness walking, private swim lessons, and much more. Tent rentals and event packages make Splashville a popular choice for parties and other events in the summer. The park offers locker rooms with showers for changing and storing items, and a concession stand featuring a variety of refreshments. 5. Lake Granbury

Created in 1969 from damning the Brazos River, Lake Granbury is a long, narrow 8,300-acre reservoir located northeast of Stephenville about 35 miles from Fort Worth. Granbury is a popular destination for water sports, fishing, and countless other outdoor activities. The lake’s facilities include five boat ramps, two fishing piers, and beaches with public swimming areas. With over 100 miles of shoreline, the lake is also a popular spot for camping and hiking. 


The Lake is stocked annually with striped, white and largemouth bass, and also features channel and flathead catfish, white crappie, sunfish and longnose gar. Boating, jet-skiing, wakeboarding and waterskiing are popular water activities. The nearby town of Granbury offers numerous options for entertainment and shopping, including the famous Brazos Drive-In Theater.
